Every residential opener made for sale in the US since January 1, 1993 has to reverse when the closing door meets an obstruction and needs a second safety system on top of that, such as photo eyes near the floor (federal rule 16 CFR Part 1211). What that rule covers.

Homes and Garages in Shrewsbury
Shrewsbury lies east of Worcester across Lake Quinsigamond, on Route 9 and Route 20, with I-290 crossing the north of town and Route 140 through the center. It is about 33 minutes from our Maynard base. Its housing is newer than in most of the towns we serve: Census estimates put the typical home at 1979, and about two in three homes were built before 1990.
In August 2026 we fitted a pair of heavy-duty torsion lift cables on a Shrewsbury door, adjusted the tracks, and tightened and added fasteners. Lift cables fray near the bottom bracket, where water sits; a fraying cable is replaced as a pair before it snaps and drops one side of the door.
Recent opener installation jobs near Shrewsbury
Two new insulated Amarr Olympus 9x7 doors in white (R-19.4) on new tracks, with nylon rollers, weatherstripping on the sides, top and bottom, and 25,000-cycle extension springs, a LiftMaster 6580L belt-drive opener with battery backup, and the old doors taken away.
Two single-car doors: two new 1/2 HP chain-drive openers with safety sensors and remotes, and a new bottom seal on each door.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about opener installation in Shrewsbury.
How much does a new garage door opener cost installed?
Opener installation runs $574-$1,229 installed. The final price depends on the model (chain vs. belt vs. jackshaft), feature set (Wi-Fi / battery backup / smart-home integration), and the wiring condition in your garage. Wall-mount jackshaft units sit at the top of the range. We'll quote the exact total before ordering anything.
What's the best garage door opener?
The right opener depends on your door, your garage and how you use it, so we don't push the most expensive model. The LiftMaster openers we price up front: LiftMaster 2220L chain drive, 3/4 HP, with camera and Wi-Fi ($574 installed); LiftMaster 6580L belt drive, 1 HP, quiet, with camera and battery backup ($804 installed); LiftMaster 98022 wall-mount (jackshaft), with battery backup, frees the ceiling ($1,049 installed). A belt drive is the quiet choice under a bedroom, and a wall-mount frees the ceiling. Each costs the same with a new door or on its own.
Can you install a smart Wi-Fi opener?
Yes. LiftMaster Wi-Fi openers work with the myQ app, so you can open, close and check the door from your phone, and some models have a built-in camera. Setup includes connecting the opener to your Wi-Fi and pairing the app on your phone.
How long do garage door openers last?
It depends on the model, how often the door runs and whether the door itself is balanced: a heavy, out-of-balance door wears an opener out faster. A worn drive gear or a failed capacitor is a repair, not a new opener: opener repair runs $195-$450, against $574-$1,229 for a new one installed. How long openers typically last, and the parts that wear, are at tips/opener lifespan.
